Teaching calmness to reactive dogs

In Person & Virtual Training Services

Calm and Confident Dog helps to address complex behavioral issues and teach calmness to reactive and aggressive dogs through implementing structure. We also help foster relationships between dogs and owners through improving communication and advocacy.

Our range of virtual and in person sessions provide foundational training and break down behavior in reactive dogs. In person sessions are hosted in Ridgewood, NY at city parks and our private training studio.

Depending on the needs of you and your dog, we offer both 1 hour sessions and full day trainings. Easier to address issues can often be resolved through a series of shorter sessions, while more complex behaviors may require full day trainings. At the end of each session, owners will be provided with the necessary tools to continue the work with their dog at home.

Please fill out our Initial Intake Form to help us determine a personalized plan for you and your dog.

Meet the Trainer

Adj McColl

Petey

Adj McColl is a Ridgewood, NY based dog trainer with a lifelong passion and natural connection to animals. Prior to becoming a professional trainer, Adj has worn many hats, holding leadership and management positions in the construction, theater, and art communities.

6 years ago, Petey, a blind double merle Aussie rescue came into her life and changed everything. After two years of working with professional trainers to work through Petey’s aggression issues, Adj became personally invested in the field and began a four year study of dog behavior and nutrition. She has since completed a range of specialized training programs with Method K9 (Idaho), Packlife LA (California), Dogs Playing for Life (Florida), and Feed Real Institute where she completed her Professional Canine Nutrition Certification.

Outside of reactivity, Adj has ample experience working with dogs with disabilities including blindness, deafness, and limb amputation.

“Learning to move at Petey’s pace—which at times has felt glacially slow—and watching myself  grow in the process has been monumental to my development as a trainer. Petey’s continued development and confidence is a constant source of inspiration for me to help other people understand, connect with, and advocate for their dogs.”
